Q: What is the Bible?

A: The bible is the book that tells us about God.

 It shows us what he is like, what he has done and what he wants us to do. It tells us about ourselves- about how God made us and how sin came into the world. It tells us about Jesus, who came to show us how much God loves us and wants to forgive our sins.

Q: How was the bible written?

A: The simplest answer is: God wrote the bible.

But he used humans to write down what he wanted us to know. We can trust God that he worked in the writers so that they wrote down what is really God's Word, even though God let each writer use his own personality and style.

Q: Who are these people and who wrote the Bible physically?

A: The people who wrote the bible lived a long time ago.

Some, like Moses, lived as long as 3,500 years ago. Others, like John, lived about 1,900 years ago. In lots of ways they were people just like we are...people who had doubts, people who did some bad things and some good things. God used them to write down words that tell us about him and his love for us.

Q: Why is the bible important to me?

A: The bible is one of the most important ways that God uses to talk to you and let you know that he is real.

The bible is more than just a bunch of old stories about some people who lived a long time ago. It is God's love letter to you, assuring you that he is interested in you and will take care of you everyday.

Q: How do I start?

A: Praying is not as hard as you may think.

What is hard is getting into the habit of talking to God every day. Maybe you could start by picking a special time every day. Think about things for which you want to say-"Thank you," or "I'm sorry," or "Please Help me," Then tell God those things. You don't have to use fancy words... You can talk to God like you talk to your dad or mom or friend.

Q: Can i tell God anything?

A: You sure can!

There isn't one thing you could say to him that would make him stop loving you. You can tell him when you're sad or when you're grumpy. You can thank him when everything's going your way. You can lean on him when you're having a bad day. You ca ntalk to him just like you would talk to a friend. But you know what? Your friends might let you down. Your mom and dad might not always be able to listen. But God can always listen- and he'll undertand no matter what.

Q: How do I know God hears me?

A: God promises to listen!

God has promised in the bible that he will listen to you. Look at Psalm 66: 17-19. Then look at John 16:23, where God promises to listen when you pray in Jesus' name. Most important of all, the Holy Spirit lives in your heart. He helps you know for sure that God listens when you talk to him.

Q: Must I fold my hands and close my eyes when I pray?

A: That's one way to do it.

Closing your eyes show you don't want anything to get in the way of talking with God. But it's not the only way to pray. You can pray while on your knees or standing up. You can pray with a purse in your hands or while you're hugging your mom. You can talk to God at any time because he's right there with you. And he wants you to be his friend. (Folding your hands is mostly so you don't fidget or fool around while you pray.)

Q: Does Jesus love me?

A: Jesus loves you more than you can imagine.

He loves you when you cry and when you laugh; when you argue with your brother or when you've had a bad day. He loves you so much that he died for you- but he isn't still dead. He is alive, and he is loving and watching over you every day.

Q: Will Jesus ever stop loving me?

A: No!

There will be times when you wonder if Jesus is real(I have). There will be times when you wonder if he loves you. There will be times when you do things that you shouldn't- when you act mean to your sister or lie to your dad. But when you pray and tell Jesus that you have times when you doubt; when you pray and tell Jesus that you know you've done wrong and you want to do better- you can be sure that He will never let you down. He will love you your whole life long, and you will live with him forever.

Q: How do I know I'm a christian?

A: There are many signs

When you love Jesus with all the love you can give, when you know deep down that Jesus loves you, when you believe He died to forgive our sins, when you want to live for Jesus- those are good signs that help you know you are a christian. Sure you're going to fail sometimes. But you see, God's love for you is so great, it covers those times when you fail. He sees deep into your heart. He knows your desire to live for him, and he loves you.
