 God uses Girlz

This section of “Hadassah” is used to show how God used girls everyday in the Bible, and still uses them today. “God’s Girl” for this issue is Miriam. Miriam was an ordinary girl who had a baby brother named Moses. She isn’t mentioned much, but she does a very bold and kind thing for her mother and brother.

In Miriam’s time, the number of Hebrews was outrageous. They were outnumbering the Egyptians, and the pharaoh didn’t like it. He allowed Hebrews to be taken in as slaves, but he noticed that they kept on having more kids so the number was still increasing. Then, the pharaoh told the midwives to kill any baby boy that was born when they were delivering a Hebrew mother, but the midwives were followers of God so they didn’t obey the Pharaoh. Finally he ordered that all baby boys who were born to a Hebrew woman were to be thrown into the Nile River. When Miriam’s mom had a baby boy, she loved him and she didn’t want him to die. So, she made a papyrus basket (much like the boats in that time) and sent him floating away down the Nile River. Miriam loved her baby brother too, so she followed the basket down the river to see to it that he was safe. The Pharaoh’s daughter was on her way down to the Nile to bathe when she saw the basket among the plants, so she sent her slave to go and retrieve it. Miriam asked the Egyptian princess, “Shall I go and get one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?” The pharaoh’s daughter agreed so Miriam went off to find her mom(that way her mom would get to see her baby again). “Take this baby and nurse him for me, and I will pay you.” The Egyptian princess said to Miriam’s mom after she returned. When the child grew older, he was sent to live with the Pharaoh’s daughter, who named him Moses. You see, God was with Miriam while she followed her brother and when she confronted the pharaoh’s daughter. She took a big risk in doing that, but because she did, she saved her baby brother’s life. Miriam had faith in God, hope for her brother, and love for her family. Moses grew up to be a very important follower of God. He saved the people of Israel from slavery and led them to the Promised Land.

Beauty & Health

In the Bible, God says that your body is God’s Temple, so you need to take care of it and keep it healthy. Have you ever seen someone who only cared about looks? Or maybe only cared about getting the latest designer clothes? Or maybe at one point that was you. Those things aren’t bad, but when our lives are centered around them, that’s when we need to do something about it. What I mean is, don’t be shallow and base your opinions of other people on how beautiful or popular they are, because that’s not what Jesus would do. Being beautiful isn’t everything, and having the latest fashion isn’t either. But, God wants you to be healthy and look nice still, so here’s the section for just that.

Beauty/Health tip for this issue:

Keep your nails filed, trimmed, and clean every day. Try not to let them get uneven and crooked, and try to make sure they’re all the same length. You can paint them if you’d like, and it’s best that when the nail polish starts pealing to get it all off with nail polish remover.

Fruit Kabob

Fruit Kabobs by LynnGolfs1

Fruit Kabob is a fun, helthy, and definitely delicious food.  It’s very easy to make too! Here’s the recipe:

Materials:

~Wooden Skewers

~A variety or fruit

~Adult’s permission to use a knife

1.     Get a long skewer

2.    Cut up as many different fruits as you can; apples, bananas, pears, watermelon, kiwis, pineapples, grapes- you don’t need to cut those, strawberries, etc. (hint* you can even add marshmallows for a sweet taste! But I guess then it wouldn’t be so healthy- lol)

3.    Now carefully stick the fruit cubes onto the wooden stick.

4.   Enjoy! (And I bet dipped in yogurt would taste very good! And, it taste extra yummy grilled!)

Collection Necklace

Fish Swivel Bracelet

(This picture actually does not have safety pins for some reason. It’s much easier with pins though)

Materials:

~12-15 Snap Swivel Brass Fish hooks (size 3 works best-available in the fishing section)

~12-15 silver safety pins in all different sizes

~colorful seed beads (as many as you’d like)

~silver or colorful charms like crosses, stars, and hearts.

~small jingle bells

~Any other small random item to spice up your necklace- washers, glass beads, buttons, shells.

~Also you may want pliers because the fish hooks can be hard to open.

1.     Unclasp a swivel slide on a few seed beads or a charm/bell, then slip a safety pin onto it and close it. (You can actually feed it through the hole at the end of the pin)

2.    Now open the safety pin and string some cute beads, charms, or bells onto it. Then reclose it, careful not to slip the fish hook off if you didn’t feed it through the hole.

3.    Unclasp the second swivel and repeat the previous steps until the necklace/bracelet is the desired length. (remember it should be long enough to take on off your head without opening it)

4.   If you made a bracelet make sure that you leave the last safety pin free of beads and charms so you can open and close it to take on and off. If you made a necklace, you’re free of this step!
